Like many of the other fine Japanese restaurants, including Tatsuya and Nogawa, the very thought of dining at Sushi Yoshida would have been unfathomable had it not been for their affordable set lunch sets. (Less than S$40)
I chose their Sushi Moriwase set (S$38 nett). I am by no accounts, a sushi expert and thus am unable to accurately identify all the fishes that came with the set. Having said that, I can identify – salmon roe, tuna, ebi and lastly, tamagoyaki. The fish was, as you would have come to expect from an establishment like this, extremely fresh. However, I was somewhat disappointed by the rice. It seemed a little dry for my liking and the rice seemed to disintegrate once I lifted them. Speaking of tamogo, fans of Japanese cuisine would understand, when I say, tamagoyaki’s (Sweet rolled egg) the ultimate test of a sushi chef’s skill. Sushi Yoshida’s version tasted a little too dry & stiff.
My dad ordered their Grilled Seasonal Fish. (S$38 nett). You do have a choice of having the fish grilled in Teriyaki or just Sea Salt. My dad chose the former. The seasonal fish turned out to be a large piece of gindara, Cod Fish. It took a while to arrive – possibly due to the slow grilling process. His comments on this dish were “well executed” and “one of the best”. I shall leave that to your own imagination and taste buds if you every do try it.
Both of us had chosen a clear soup instead of the Miso soup. The clear fish broth was a pretty refreshing way to end off the meal. It didn’t taste the least fishy – due to the large amounts of ginger used.
