Perth: Elixir Coffee

Elixir Cofee

Torn between two lovers, feelin’ like a fool; Lovin’ both of you is breakin’ all the rules” – Torn Between Two Lovers, Mary MacGregor.

In March 2011, I discovered Epic Espresso and this month, through a friend’s recommendation, I discovered a coffee joint that serves a really excellent cuppa with the added convenience of just being a 5 minute drive away from school. Read more

Perth: C Restaurant in the Sky

Tasmanian smoked salmon and Neufchatel cheese rolls, red capsicum dressing

One of the to-go restaurants in Perth is The C Restaurant in the Sky on St. Georges Terrace.

If it’s not for the food, go for the view! It”s not picturesque in any dictionary, but still, it’s a view.

Well, you see – It provides one a 365 degree look of Perth city(It’s a revolving restaurant ala Prima Restaurant). The view, is quite good too – considering that much of Perth is low rise and thus being perched on the 33rd storey of an office building does have it perks. Read more

Perth: TOAST

I think I’ve found the best spot to have breakfast in Perth.

Located on Claisebrook Cove Waterfront, East Perth and next to the Royal Hotel is TOAST, an all-day breakfast dining establishment that serves up many breakfast favourites like, corn fritters and even both sweet and savoury crepes and of course, the usual suspects such as big breakfast sets and Eggs Benedict. Perth: Balthazar

Truffle honey cream, berries, pecans, licorice and Black Garlic ice cream (A$18)

Balthazaar is consistently ranked as one of the better restaurants in Perth, especially in the CBD region. One of the restaurant and dining guidebooks, even referred to it as, “The Restaurant-to-Go in Perth“.  Balthazar is rather centrally located, just off St. Georges Terrace and within a few minutes walk from the Esplanande Bus Port.

I wondered if the restaurant would live up to both the heightened expectations and bold claims. Read more

Perth: Dragon Palace Dim Sum

Think Dim Sum in Perth and the one of the names that come to mind is Dragon Palace. It’s one of the few restaurants whose name is synonymous with authentic Dim Sum Lunches in Perth.

Situated in Northbridge, ala Chinatown, Dragon Palace Seafood Restaurant (it’s full name), is located within the premises of a two storey building that looked rather promising on first sight. Tables were spread out fairly far apart, unlike say Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong and the noise levels for a yum cha dim sum restaurant are kept to a somewhat acceptable volume – you wouldn’t need to shout to get yourself heard - Lin Heung. Perth – The Quarter on Hay

A quick search on Urbanspoon led me to The Quarter on Hay. A cafe-restaurant located in the middle of town – next to the likes of brand-name shops.

For starters, I tried the Bresse Blue and white onion tart, roast pear and rocket salad. Think, white onion quiche and you basically get the idea. According to the waiter, the white onion tart is one of the restaurant’s more popular dishes and I can see why so; The pastry was firm and not too crumbly and the combination of the Bresse Blue (which was on the mild side of things) and the white onions was excellent. Perth: Epic Espresso

Perth - Epic Espresso - Best Espresso in Perth - HungryEpicurean (1)

Have you ever been to a place and you start falling in love with it the very moment you lay eyes on it? In our (my friends and I) opinion, we have;

And that place is Epic Espresso. Located along Hay Street, near the junction of Ord St. and Outram St., this quaint cafe serves up some of the purportedly best coffee in Perth. Had it not been for the reviews found online and in the lifestyle magazines, one could easily miss this place. Although, it’s still in the Perth CBD and while it’s within walking distance from the Murray/Hay St Malls, there’s a reason why the free Red CAT bus exists!

Walk into the cafe and you literally feel invigorated from the (can-i-say-soothing) aroma of roasted coffee that permeates through the air. I kid you not, we’ve been back here quite a number of times and Epic has never disappointed anyone of us yet.  Read more
