Does Singapore need yet another coffee-cafe? It does look like there is no stopping these entrepreneurs. Necessary Provisions is opened by the good people behind Smitten at Robertson Quay and of the now-defunct Henry Congressional at Henry Park.
We tried the Iced Coffee which is unique in the fact that you are presented with concentrated espresso in ice cubes, and cold milk. The idea is to pour cold milk over the coffee ice cubes. Novelty aside, I did not find that it made for better tasting coffee. Just my humble two cents anyway.
The other coffee drinks that we tried, the Cold Drip and Flat White, were again, for lack of a better word, okay.
Food wise, it was decent, but again not great. The 3 of us shared 3 different sandwiches on offer – there was not much choice on the menu, to be honest. There were definitely much more choices for dinner!
One thing to note, the toilet is located at the back of the shop unit. Literally. One would need to walk out of the cafe, head into the back alley, enter through an old-school metal door. An excellent example of juxtaposition of the old and the indie.
The sitting capacity in the cafe is amazing, really. It’s good to be creative, indie and all that. But to only have 1 medium-sized communal table and a few other small and low seats and tables in a cafe? Perhaps, the seating options should be looked into, again? Just my two cents.
Would I go back again? Maybe…..if they make more of that Chiffon cake (expensive as it may be) and the other dinner options.
