I was recently at The White Rabbit, so here’s a sneak preview of what’s coming your way this festive holiday!
Housed in a charming and scenic old chapel off the Dempsey area, your dining experience will not be any less than enchanting.
The four-course meal began with the Assiette of Starter; it is a trio of Foie Gras Parfait,
Iberico Ham, and
Pan Seared Scallop available on the New Year’s Eve Menu.
Foie Gras Parfait, Toasted Brioche, Shallot Marmalade
This component is outstanding on the plate; the ethereally smooth and creamy foie gras parfait sits neatly on a softly toasted Brioche, embellished with shreds of savoury Shallot Marmalade. It is my favourite amongst the three.
Iberico Ham with Fresh Fig, Parmesan & Rocket
Wrapped in Iberico Ham, you will find fresh fig and rocket greens, and topped with slices of crisp Parmesan cheese.
Pan Seared Scallop
The Pan Seared Scallop rests on a bed of fresh Wakame salad, forming the last component on the plate. The pan-seared scallop is served slightly below desired temperature; I prefer to eat it warm.
Next up, the Champagne Poached Seabass, available on the Festive Degustation Menu, is served in a flavourful Mushroom Broth, swimming with Baby Vegetables. With the slightest hint of champagne that my palate could barely notice, the seabass is actually nicely seasoned and stuffed with herbs. My dining companion’s fish was free of bones, thanks to the painstaking effort they made to remove them, but I found a tiny one in mine –a really tiny one.
The Roulade of Turkey is a highlight; it is available on the Festive Set Lunch Menu –I felt like I was celebrating Christmas already. The moist and tender turkey is stuffed with Chestnut, Smoked Oyster and accompanying with Cornbread and Sage, with a drizzle of Cranberry Sauce –what lovely textures. I especially enjoyed the sweet and savoury corn bread. The marriage of flavours from the savoury, sweet and a little sourness works well together. The broccoli was too crunchy for my liking; my health-conscious partner enjoyed it.
Finally, my favourite course of the day –dessert! The Sticky Date Pudding is rich, dense and moist, with thick caramel sauce to complement. It is the epitome of ending a meal on a sweet note, although my partner found the caramel sauce to be too sweet. Guess what, I polished off what’s left on her plate!
Have a cuppa coffee or tea to wind down after the meal – Cappuccino for me, served alongside a crisp cookie that I wish I could have more
I would love to visit The White Rabbit again for dinner; I heard the night ambience is stunning.
