You know of the times when one craves for comfort Japanese food at well, rather economical prices? I definitely do and the place that I go when that craving strikes – Tampopo Japanese Restaurant.
I have been visiting Tampopo on a relatively regular basis at their Liang Court outlet, from way back when they were still situated in the basement, within the Medi-ya supermarket.
Of course, if one’s picky and wants to nit-pick on the authencity or freshness or who-knows-what, then perhaps Tampopo is not the place for you. But if you’re in the market for affordability, well portioned dishes – there you have it, my pick for just that!
Ahh, the bentos…….
The Tempura Soba bento set comes served just as pictured – Cold Matcha Soba paired with crispy assorted tempura of prawns and eggplants.
On a side note, I have never liked Maki (California in particular) rolls and this was a little more disappointing that I had expected – the rice was awfully hard!
The ramen in pork broth was good. I heard nothing but raves from the friend.
And there was no way that we were going to leave Tampopo without a slice of their Scoop Cake!
Frankly speaking, the scoop cake is my favourite, must order dessert at Tampopo. Some may take a preference to their other desserts but for me, this was their pièce de résistance of not just of this meal, but of the restaurant’s repertoire of desserts.
The cake is rather dense in texture and the combination of cream, strawberries and orange slices just makes this a clear winner.
We wanted to try a different dessert this time and opted to get the Whole Orange Jelly.
It was pleasant, yet not something that I would re-order the next time I visit.
