Thai Accent at Vivocity
The ever-so-lovely neighbour and I paid a visit to one of her favourite Thai haunts – Thai Accent at Vivocity. The neighbour has spoken highly of Thai Accent on a few occasions, so when she suggested going there for lunch, I graciously accepted.
I’ve never been to Thailand yet (although I was planning a trip in November but today’s bombing has somewhat deters me from heading there) but I’ve personally had my fair share of Thai food in Singapore – Bangkok Jam, Thai Express, Sabai and even the less-heard-of, presumably authentic restaurants in Golden Mile Shopping Centre where I once interned.
I like the Creamy Green Chicken Curry here.
You know how some restaurants tend to cook their green curries laden with so much sugar, all you really get to taste is the sweetness brought about from the added sugar? Thai Accent’s rendition is nothing like that – it tasted almost entirely of herbs with minimal use of sugar.
But beware – they did not hold back on the use of chilli. It sure was, spicy!
I’m sorry to be somewhat boring but the one dish that I will never leave a restaurant without ordering is the Tom Yum soup. It is, in my dictionary, the quintessential dish to order.
We ordered the Fish Tom Yum in Clear soup that came with chunks of fish and mushrooms. For seafood lovers, there’s the option of a seafood tom yum soup as well.
Thai Accent’s version was definitely spicy, in a good way of course! I’m pretty sure this is in all part due to the small Thai chilli padi that I spied floating around in the soup.
If you are like me and prefer your tom yum soups to be hot and not toned down in the spicy quadrant of the palate, Thai Accent is your go-to place.
The neighbour suggested a serving of the Home made Thai Beancurd with Peanut sauce, for which I’m thankful of. The beancurds were a delight to eat – crispy on the outside and firm on the inside. They were good enough to savour on its own; the spicy peanut sauce that came along with it, only gave more reason to have order this dish on my next visit.
Oh, by the way, the salad that you see behind, was very spicy. In fact, it was way too spicy for me as a salad.
By the way, did I add that, the meal added up to just S$37 inclusive of GST and Service Charge? And that’s inclusive of plain rice and free flow iced water. Now, that’s value-for-money for decent Thai food.
Thai Accent is definitely for the keeps.

Have you tried Ah Loy Thai & First Thai? They serve one of the most authentic Thai food in Singapore. Delicious to boot.
Ah loy no, first thaia while back. I want to try thai central at chulin though.
My family’s favourite for thai is still sabai, err the one at ngee ann city?
I think so far the only thai green curry I’ve tried is from thai express. lol
I love their avocado milkshake too. haha
the beancurd looks nice. And the green curry looks very creamy (haven’t seen that creamy before). Daniel suggested a place at Tyrwhitt…Northern Thai, though I was not able to try it.
Wow, the beancurd looks yummy! Try Mai Thai at Chip Bee….not bad as well..:)
Now, that’s a restaurant name that I have yet to come across. Thanks for the heads up.
