Just last week, your humble author received a hand delivered “We Love Hawker Food Kit” from The kit consisted of a coffee glass commonly used in Hawker Centres, a “Good Morning” towel and tissue pack which read “Got People Sitting Here!”. Personally, I thought that it was quite a nice combination, as far as marketing collateral are concerned.

Here’s a snippet from the press release: has launched a contest to discover the island’s most passionate foodie, someone who recommends the best hawker stalls in Singapore, who will uncover and feature never been found hawker gems and who will specialise in writing recommendations on the top hawker fare for’s Food and Drink section.

The Hawker Lover contest winner will join’s Food and Drink’s team of great writers, including prominent food blogger Leslie Tay, and renowned food critics and chefs Violet Oon and Sylvia Tan, in providing our readers with objective, informed and creative reviews of Singapore’s favourite food places and dishes.

As well as a regular column, he or she will also receive $1,000 cash a month for six months as well as a Canon EOS 550D DSLR camera to snap pictures of the delicious dishes they try.

The contest runs for eight weeks. To take part, contestants will simply have to complete a series of questions – to help us size up their passion for hawker food, to flaunt their writing skills and to showcase their reviews to our readers.  Entries will be judged by Leslie Tay as well as readers via a voting tool.
