Canele

HungryEpicurean - Food Reviews of the Best Singapore Cakes

A recent food trail with 2 colleagues landed us at Canele, Paragon for some sweet after-work desserts. In all, 3 of us ordered 2 slices of cake and 2 sweet crepes (they have savoury ones too). Do the math and you’ll realize that, for someone who does not take too much to his desserts like myself, that’s a lot of desserts!

Before I begin, let it be known that I am not one too keen on his desserts (Read: I’m not someone who needs a dessert to end off every meal). And, for the record, as of this writing, I am unable to distinguish the difference between a génoise sponge and sponge cake. Desserts for all its technicalities, shall be left to the experts, sgdesserts, skinnier than the original and divinejoybites.

HungryEpicurean - Reviews of the Best Briyani in Singapore

Let it be known that, apart from all the French and Italian and Japanese and what-have-you cuisines that I have had the pleasure of blogging before, I am a die-hard fan of local cuisine. But, I am very picky. Therefore, if you have any suggestions of the best local Char Kway Teow, Hokkien Mee or Roast Duck, please e-mail me!

The first cuisine stop – Malay.

I joined fellow bloggers, Harris and Zaylene in search of a Malay staple, the Nasi Briyani.

Borgata Trattoria Osteria

HungryEpicurean.com - Reviews of Singapore's Best Italian Restaurants

Part of the LifeBrandz group, which owns Zirca, Borgata is a semi casual Italian restaurant located in Clarke Quay.

My love affair with Borgata began way back in 2008 when one-half of Borgo, Chef Andre Badiali and Ganesh, the ever affable manager. Borgo (now-defunct) was a restaurant that was situated just before Sixth Avenue, and which now houses L’Ancora.

The other half of Borgo, ala Chef Mimmo, struck out on his own, to open Al Borgo along Bukit Timah Road.

You can read previous review of Al Borgo here. I have, however, heard somewhat negative reviews of the pastas there recently from friends and family. Nonetheless, the grilled meat dishes that Chef Mimmo dishes are still, excellent.

Kuala Lumpur Trip

Hello there,

Your author will be in the company of two other fellow bloggers, Zaylene and Harris, feasting on yummylicious food in the lovely Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur. There are no fine dining restaurant visits are in the itinerary but (hopefully) equally delectable and scrumptious surprises and meals await us.

I have scheduled a few entries in the coming days for your reading pleasure, but if patience is not one of your virtues (I admit, it isn’t one of mine), please visit some of my other favourite food bloggers. The usual culprits are:

Hong Kong: Four Seasons Pot Rice

Reviews of the Best Food in Hong Kong

Our first dinner in Hong Kong brought us to Yau Ma Tei.  Four Seasons Claypot Rice is an old cafe/eatery located just around the corner of the subway station.  This restaurant is what you would imagine in the late 80s/early 90s – mosaic flooring, tiled walls, fold-able wooden tables, chairs and friendly aunties donning apron colored brightly with flowery prints.

Everything here is starts with a humble HKD$18, and portion-wise, you are really getting a good deal out of this. Read more
