Hong Kong: Yung Kee Restaurant

Photobucket

First thing in the 2nd morning of our Hong Kong trip, Glenn and I had planned to visit Lin Heung.  So on our way there in a cab (take the subway, its much faster and alot cheaper) we decided to ask the nice cabby where to eat in and around Central.  He then recommended us the Roast Goose from Yung Kee.

And while having our dim sum breakfast, the patrons that shared the same table as us talked about Yung Kee as well, which stoked our curiosity even more to try this restaurant.

Yung Kee is a Chinese-Cantonese restaurant that is well-known with the locals for serving roast goose and their Cantonese dishes.  And its generally a suitable place for families to have their dinner or lunch here.

Need I add that, Yung Kee was awarded 1 Michelin Star in the The Michelin Guide – Hong Kong / Macau 2010? That, alone, should be reason enough to plan for a visit to Yung Kee.

Sage Restaurant Revisited

This is a revisit to Sage Restaurant, along Mohd Sultan Road. My post on my previous visit to Sage can be found at: http://www.hungryepicurean.com/2010/01/sage-restaurant/

Hong Kong: Nobu Restaurant

HungryEpicurean.com

I wanted to visit a Japanese restaurant while I was in Hong Kong. Flipping through the Tatler dining guide showed a recommendation to NOBU. I was practically staying within a 10 minute radius of Hotel Inter-Continental, I thought, why not give NOBU a try?

A partnership between Chef Nobu Matsuhisa and Hollywood actor Robert DeNiro, NOBU is synonymous with innovative new-style Japanese cuisine. Opened in 2006, NOBU InterContinental Hong Kong was Nobu’s first restaurant in Asia (ex Japan) and is among 21 NOBU and 4 Matsuhisa restaurants currently in operation around the world.

For the inquisitive, Chef Nobu Matushisa’s profile can be found on Wikipedia.

Saint Pierre

I loved my previous visit to Saint Pierre so much that I just had to have my French fix again the following week. So this was, essentially, two consecutive visits in just two weeks.

As mentioned before, Saint Pierre has a relatively affordable set lunch menu that ranges from S$28++ to S$48++ depending on the number of courses. Unlike other restaurants who just claim to change their menus frequently, Saint Pierre holds true to their word. With the exception of 3 mainstay dishes (The Foie Gras, Miso Cod and Grandma Stroobant’s Chocolate cake), the menu was revamped and had no similarities withe the menu on my previous visit.

The entry on my previous visit can be found here.

Nogawa – Simple Sushi Indulgence

Nogawa at Concorde Hotel is my favourite Japanese restaurant and Chef Kevin is my go-to guy when the craving for sushi comes around.

I just love sitting at the counter interacting with the Itamae (Sushi Chef), Chef Kevin. You get to interact with the Chef, asking him questions and chatting about almost anything under the sun, akin to having your own personal chef. This is completely unlike dining at an French or Italian restaurant, where the Chef’s in the kitchen, hidden from view. (Open Kitchens aside.)

Now, sit back and relax while you join me for this little sushi adventure.

Hong Kong: Paul Lafayet Patisserie

HungryEpicurean.com

Searching through Openrice got us to a nearby French Patisserie near our hotel in K11. A quick Google showed that ‘Paul Lafayet‘, belongs to French expat, Toni Younes and that it is a relatively young upstart, having only opened its doors in February 2010.

Hong Kong: Antique Patisserie & Fine Chocolates

It was purely coincidental that we came across this little ‘English-(ala colonial) looking’ tea/cake shop along Central. Lying directly opposite of Tai Cheong Bakery lies Antique Patisserie & Fine Chocolates.
