Pete’s Place

I had previously reviewed mezza9 earlier this month, and thought that a review on another restaurant located within Hyatt Hotel would be most suitable. To many, Pete’s Place comes across as a classic, run-of-the-mill Italian restaurant in a five star hotel along Orchard Road.

Ambience wise, it is not no where as pretentious as some other restaurants (Think white table cloth, WMF cutlery ala Fine Dining Restaurants, like Garibaldi). Additionally, rustic seems to be the order of the day here. The decor feels dated.

Private Affairs

Mention the words, “Restaurant” and “Joo Chiat” and I’ll look at you with inquisitive eyes and ask you in return whether you actually meant another road? The whole Joo Chiat area would not be a place you would expect to find a fine dining restaurant. But oh boy oh boy, you are so, so wrong! Therein lies a fine dining restaurant, “Private Affairs”. But that, unfortunately, is not the end of the surprise. The food is amazing! The effort that you see the chefs put into plating each and every dish, is magical – something only one with the passion for food would create.

Le Bon Marche

Le Bon Marche is situated next to my favourite Italian joint, Al Borgo. Having walked past the restaurant on a couple of occasions, I was rather impressed by the menu that was placed strategically at the door.

Bonta Italian Restaurant

Saint Valentine’s Day, this year, coincidentally fell on the 1st day of the Lunar New Year. For many, it would have been a toss between joining in the festivities of the New Year or celebrating Valentine’s Day. For the lucky few, like myself, managed to celebrate both.

Strangely enough, even as florists and restaurateurs (clearly) profit from the occasion, many people still splurge on this particular day. Commercialized, as it may be, but I, for one truly appreciate the significance behind Saint Valentine’s Day – showing appreciation for someone you love.

Admittedly, if 2 people are truly and deeply in love, to them, every single day would be Valentine’s. I could not have put it any better than a friend of mine who commented, that any acts of love on the 14th of February every year would be futile if all the other 364 days were spent arguing.

Valentine’s dinner was not an elaborate 9 course, S$15,000 affair; Read more

Boathouse and Prelude

Ask me whether I knew about Boathouse or the Fullerton Waterboat House for that matter a week before hearing of it from Harris, and I would have answered, “What?”. Harris first heard of this Contemporary European from a good friend of his. Coincidentally, after Harris and I decided on a date to visit this restaurant, a few other prominent food bloggers posted their reviews of Boathouse, as part of a invited Fullerton Heritage Tour.

Since Camemberu, Lady Iron Chef and The Little Teochew. all positively reviewed this restaurant, one to the extent of bestowing upon it the best new restaurant title, to Boathouse, nothing held us back from making reservations for a table of 4 with Harris, Kaelyn, Angeline and myself.

Disclaimer: As you read this food review, I implore upon you to read this review with a large pinch of salt, for your experience may differ greatly from mine. Considering, too, that Boathouse was only 1 .5 months old when we visited them and our experience could have been the result of their teething problems. We have made our feedback known to both the co-owner and manager and we look forward to seeing how Boathouse can improve in the weeks to come. A visit 1-2 months later would perhaps change my perception, for what I have written below is my honest and truthful opinion of the experience that I had.

mezza9 – Hyatt Hotel

To many, mezza9 comes across as a decent restaurant in a five star hotel along Orchard Road, serving average cuisine catering to the upmarket tourist crowd. So, I hopped down to mezza9 to either dispel or confirm the myth.
