Smiths Fish and Chips

Smiths Fish and Chips Tanjong Katong - HungryEpicurean - Singapore Food Blog

Smiths Fish and Chips has been featured quite frequently in the local food blogosphere recently and I just had to pay them a visit to see what the hype was about. I do love my Fish & Chips, well most of them anyway!

Well to cut the story short, Smiths a nice place to get your Fish and Chips fix, but was it extraordinary? Perhaps not. It could be just a matter of personal tastes and preferences but I just felt like something was lacking from my meal here.

Royal China

Royal China Dim Sum Raffles Hotel - HungryEpicurean - Singapore Food Blog

I’ve always known of the existence of this really good restaurant that serves awesome dim sum at Raffles Hotel but never had the chance to give it a try.

Both the friend and I both had a severe dim sum craving that weekend and we just had to pay a visit to dim sum establishment; Granted it was a toss  up between Wah Lok at Carlton and Royal China at Raffles, but I am glad that we chose Royal China.

Now that I have tried it, Royal China is easily THE restaurant for dim sum now! Read more

Hong Kong: Mandarin Bar and Grill

Hong Kong Mandarin Bar and Grill - HungryEpicurean - Singapore Food Blog

Mandarin Bar and Grill is almost molecular gastronmy like in their approach but I loved every moment that I was there. I felt like I was transported into a different realm for that 3 hours. Liberty Private Works was my best meal in Hong Kong but Mandarin Bar and Grill is not a far second. Service was excellent too! Definitely worthy of their One Michelin Star (Which they retained in the recent 2011 Michelin HK/Macau guide)

Long renowned as Hong Kong’s favourite dining room, The Grill serves an exciting adaptation of grill specialties with a dash of progressive gastronomy from the talented Executive Chef Uwe Opocensky.

Trattoria Milano

Trattoria Milano - HungryEpicurean - Singapore Food Blog

A few months ago, while I was still writing for Openrice Singapore, I wrote an article on Trattoria Milano‘s signature dish (Squid Ink Ravioli in Capsicum Sauce) which can be found here.

It was only recently that I returned here to try out some of their other dishes that they had on offer with the family in tow.

Otto Ristorante White Truffles Season - HungryEpicurean - Singapore Food Blog

The Alba white truffle season may or may not already have ended (Call to Check) by the time this post is published but my meal at OTTO was so good that I felt ompelled to post an entry about it.

Amuse Bouche: Marinated Octopas.

Something different, to tempt the tastebuds and a quick fill-me-up.

Amuse bouche aside, this was what I returned to Otto for – The scrambled egg with blue swimmer crab ($19++)

I first saw pictures of this dish last year during white truffle season when I first started surfing food blogs – one of which was this post.

So when the season came around this year, I made sure that I would visit them for the white truffles.

Chef Michele comes around with a truffle in his one hand and a weighing scale in another, measures the weight of the truffle and……………

……….. Starts shaving slices of the white truffle onto the smooth (almost custard like) scrambled eggs.

This was simply a delight to savour!

2010 has yet to pass, but I am already looking forward to meeting you in 2011!

The Braised Beef in Red Wine with Mashed Potatoes had to play second fiddle to the scrambled truffles that night, but it was not because it was bad, the scrambled eggs were just too good.

The beef braised wonderfully, it was literally, for lack of words, fork tender. The mashed potatoes were so finely mashed that it seemed more cream like than puree.

If only the portion size served was just a little bigger…………………….

The Linguine all’ Astice dette In Busera is one of the OTTO’s signature dishes. The linguine was immaculately cooked to al-dente perfection and chunks of boston lobster meat filled the dish. A simple, yet delectable spicy light tomato gravy finished the dish.

It is easy to see why many people, bloggers and non-bloggers, have constantly raved about their Boston lobster pasta.

I walked away feeling satisfied. OTTO, I will be back again.
